Jonas Kaufmann is now established as the most successful and versatile tenor of his generation, attracting rave reviews for his live performances and recordings.  He certainly made a lasting impression at this year’s Classical Brits, bringing the house down with arias by Puccini and Verdi, leaving everyone stunned!

Following the international success of his Romantic Arias disc, Kaufmann returns with an album of outstanding arias from German opera – the music of his homeland. This disc includes the challenging leading role of Beethoven’s only opera Fidelio, favourite arias by Mozart, Wagner and rarely heard works by Schubert.

The great Claudio Abbado directs the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Arnold Schoenberg Choir in his first ever vocal recital recording for Decca, and his first Decca recording for almost forty years.
