Rebecca Allen
Head of PRFrom Brassed Off to Baroque and Roll ...
My background is steeped in music with both my parents coming from Salvation Army & musical backgrounds, so it wasn't a total shock to them when I came home from school at the age of 10 proudly carrying a trombone! I swiftly moved on to studying the Trumpet though when I realised that carrying a hard and very large trombone case to school every day wasn't particularly cool.
I spent several years playing in brass bands, orchestras and concerts bands but it was my love of all things Baroque that led me to London to study Recorder & Early Music with Philip Thorby at The Trinity College of Music.
After leaving Trinity in 1996 I found myself working as Marketing Assistant at the BBC Symphony Orchestra and also a season as Marketing and Publicity Assistant for the BBC Proms. I worked with some great artists, composers and conductors during this time including Pierre Boulez, Sir Andrew Davis and Bryn Terfel - the musical love of my life!
I've been at Decca since 1999 and have seen the company evolve from Universal Classics & Jazz through to Decca Records and have worked with some incredible artists including Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras, Oscar Peterson and young and exciting artists like Jamie Cullum, Rolando Villazon and Nicola Benedetti.
If I were to be ever stuck on a Desert Island the recordings I would take with me would be the following:
Shostakovich - Symphony No.5
Vaughan Williams - Lark Ascending
BT - Remember
Miles Davis - Autumn Leaves
Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives
Holst - The Planets
Lamb - Gabriel
Terry Callier - Dancing Girl
Jeff Buckley - Lover You Should've Come Over
