Decca, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, is proud to distribute the soundtrack to the 21st-Century reinvention of the 1980 Oscar®-winning film classic, FAME. The new film, set to bring a whole new generation to the inspirational brand, will be released by Lakeshore Entertainment/Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on 25th September 2009.
The soundtrack, produced by Lakeshore Records, teams world-renowned songwriters and producers with new stars from the film on a soundtrack that features both remixes of the original classics with brand new tunes.
Writing and producing this dynamic reinvention is the multi-award winning “dream team’, including The Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Shakira, Britney Spears), James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill) and Damon Elliott (Destiny's Child, Gwen Stefani, Beyonce). The resulting soundtrack epitomises the film’s contemporary look and sound.
With the original FAME capturing Oscars® for "Best Song" and "Best Score," The Matrix, Poyser and Elliott were selected to continue the franchise's reputation for musical excellence. The film includes a contemporized new recording of the franchise's signature Oscar®-winning song, FAME.
Other stand-out tracks include ‘Get on the Floor’, ‘Try’ and ‘Hold Your Dream’, all of which were written for the film and performed by members of the new cast, which appear alongside songs such as Sam Sparro’s recent hit, ‘Black & Gold’.
Set in the intensely competitive atmosphere of New York City's prestigious School of Performing Arts, FAME captures the excitement and energy of young performers which is by now so familiar to fans of the original. The film introduces an entirely new set of characters, played by a cast of rising stars including the impressive vocals of Naturi Naughton and Collins Pennie, as well as fellow cast members Kristy Flores, Kay Panabaker, Kherington Payne, Paul Iacono, Paul McGill, Walter Perez and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.
FAME is directed by Kevin Tancharoen. The script was written by Allison Burnett and is based on the motion picture screenplay "FAME" by Christopher Gore. FAME is being produced by Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi; Mark Canton is also attached as a producer. David Kern serves as co-producer. The FAME Soundtrack Album was produced by Grammy-nominated Soundtrack Album producers Brian McNelis and Skip Williamson with Eric Craig.
